Inspired by the government commitment to resettle Syrian refugees in Canada, the Syrian Canadian Foundation (SCF) was founded in January 2016 and aims to empower newcomers and people of diverse backgrounds while promoting cross-cultural exchanges within the Canadian society. We engage with partners and volunteers to build welcoming communities and culturally customized services for Syrian newcomers and other diverse communities.

Job Description

The Syrian Canadian Foundation is looking for a passionate, kind and motivated Strategy and Communications Specialist to help run day to today communication affairs of the organization. An organization like SCF has diverse needs, this means that you will sometimes be required to wear multiple hats,  like leading crowdfunding campaigns and/or fundraising events. 

This is a full-time position with a one year contract, with the possibility of renewal. It includes a health benefits package, paid vacation and many opportunities for training and professional development.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the organization’s external communications to ensure that they adhere to SCF’s vision, mission and  style, and are linguistically accurate 
  • Maintain and improve SCF’s organizational processes
  • Support the Executive Director (ED) with administrative tasks
  • Lead crowdfunding campaigns and/or fundraising events 
  • Support project managers with reporting 
  • Create, edit, and/or proofread any content to be released on social media or newsletter to maintain a consistent vernacular throughout all communcuation materials 
  • Ensure adherence to SCF policies such as HR, financial, privacy, and cyber security and work with the board on continued development of SCF’s policies
  • Conduct strategy and marketing plan


  • Minimum  2  years’ experience working in the nonprofit sector 
  • excellent written and verbal communications skills (must be able to produce error free professional writing)
  • highly organized and well versed with various organizational tools 
  • tech savvy 
  •  able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with strong problem solving skills
  • Administrative/ operational experience 
  • Possess a solid understanding of effective marketing techniques
  • Social media managing skills (Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and other platforms)
  • Experience in policy procedures
  • Website coordination skills, using WordPress or similar
  • Email campaign skills, using Mailchimp or similar
  • Event planning skills (online event management  along with crowdfunding or fundraising experience
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Graphic design skills, using Canva or similar is an asset

Work Conditions

Working Conditions

  • Travel within the GTA and surrounding areas might be required
  • Flexible work hours may be required

Contract Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Salary: $56,000 – $65,000

Starting date: As soon as we find a suitable candidate
