SCF is a registered charity committed to empowering newcomer communities through culturally responsive, inclusive programming. We aim to foster belonging and integration while addressing barriers to mental health, language training , and skills development.
About the Program:
SCF is expanding its successful Ontario-based “Sawa” Mental Wellness program to Newfoundland & Labrador (NL). The program supports the integration of Arabic-speaking newcomer women by providing:
- Mental wellness group workshops and 1:1 sessions
- Conversational English language circles
- Cultural exchange opportunities with local connectors
- Referrals to employment readiness programs
Position Summary:
We are seeking a local Program Coordinator based in St. John’s, NL, who can take the lead on managing in-person logistics and program delivery in Newfoundland, while also coordinating remotely with the Ontario-based SCF team, and reporting to SCF Program Manager in Ontario. This role is ideal for someone who is well-connected in the local community and passionate about supporting newcomer women’s mental wellness and integration. Working closely with the SCF Program Manager in Ontario and local partners in NL, the coordinator will ensure smooth delivery of program activities, including weekly wellness sessions, language circles, and participant engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support recruitment of program participants and local facilitators (e.g. mental health, language training, cultural connectors)
- Organize logistics for weekly sessions (venue booking, refreshments, childcare, transportation)
- Liaise with local partners and community ambassadors
- Track attendance, collect feedback, and support participant communications
- Coordinate delivery of wellness kits, final printed wellness book, and closing celebration
- Monitor program timelines and contribute to internal reporting
- Uphold a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive environment for all activities
Qualifications:
- Experience coordinating community-based or mental health-related programs
- Familiarity with newcomer or refugee experiences in NL
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Culturally competent with sensitivity to intersectionality, GBA+ principles, and gender equity
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with remote teams
- Proficiency in Arabic and in English
Assets
- Knowledge of local resources in St. John’s and the broader NL settlement landscape
- Previous experience in workshop facilitation or participant outreach
