About SCF

Inspired by the government commitment to resettle Syrian refugees in Canada, the Syrian Canadian Foundation (SCF) was founded in January 2016 and aims to empower newcomers and people of diverse backgrounds while promoting cross-cultural exchanges within Canadian society. We engage with partners and volunteers to build welcoming communities and culturally customized services for Syrian newcomers and other diverse communities.

Summary

The Job Developer is responsible for coordinating the promotion of the Skilled Trades Licensing and Employment program and helping with the selection of candidates who are seeking fulltime employment in the Trades. The incumbent will be responsible to contact employers (through cold calling, emailing, and in person meeting) to fill any vacancy they have by promoting job seekers through the STL&E program. The Job Developer is also required to do intake and assessment of prospective participants, facilitating employment readiness sessions, providing support and conducting evaluations, and working closely with employers to address their hiring needs. The Job Developer must be an excellent verbal and written communicator, comfortable presenting in front of a group of individuals. The ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize will also come in handy during busy periods. The person in this role must be self-motivated and able to meet a predetermined quota and targets. The Job Developer needs to have strong negotiation skills, as well as an understanding of the job market and employment trends.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Identify job opportunities and potential employers that match the skills and interests of job seekers
  • Develop partnerships with local businesses and employers to facilitate job placements
  • Provide job seekers with information about job vacancies, career paths, and employment-related topics
  • Assist job seekers in preparing for job interviews and helping them understand the job market
  • Develop job descriptions and specifications in collaboration with employers
  • Negotiate job terms and conditions with employers on behalf of job seekers
  • Monitor and follow up with both the employer and the job seeker after placement
  • Provide feedback to job seekers about their job search strategies and interview skills
  • Work closely with career counselors, social workers, and other professionals to provide holistic support to job seekers
  • Keep records of job placements, employer contacts, and other relevant information

Working Conditions

  • Remote, however some in-person meetings with clients required 
  • This is a full-time position on a one-year contract, starting Apr 1, 2026
  • Salary is $50,000 base + up to $14,000 in incentive pay for targets reached
  • 40 hours a week.
