Communication Designer - Government of Canada Summer Jobs Program

About the Syrian Canadian Foundation (SCF):

Inspired by the government commitment to resettle Syrian refugees in Canada, the Syrian Canadian Foundation (SCF) was founded in January 2016 and aims to empower newcomers and people of diverse backgrounds while promoting cross-cultural exchanges within Canadian society. We engage with partners and volunteers to build welcoming communities and culturally customized services for Syrian newcomers and other diverse communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Photograph and film program activities, workshops, and community events to document impact and support storytelling. 
  • Edit photos and videos for use on social media, websites, reports, and promotional materials. 
  • Assist in creating visual communication materials such as graphics, posters, digital banners, and social media content using Canva. 
  • Support the management of social media accounts by drafting posts, preparing visuals, scheduling content, and monitoring basic engagement. 
  • Conduct interviews with program participants to gather testimonials and success stories (written, audio, or video). 
  • Help collect, organize, and archive media assets (photos, videos, quotes, consent forms) in a coordinated system. 
  • Support the communications team in preparing newsletters, email updates, and website content. 
  • Conduct basic research on community engagement trends, design ideas, or best practices in nonprofit communications. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and ensure ethical storytelling when working with newcomer and refugee participants. 
  • Attend team meetings and contribute creative ideas to strengthen public engagement and community visibility.

Requirements

  • Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the funded position.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
  • Have a valid SIN
