About the Syrian Canadian Foundation (SCF): was established in 2016 to support the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Canada. Since then, it has grown into a national charitable organization dedicated to empowering refugees and newcomers from diverse backgrounds.
SCF’s mission is to help refugees and newcomers thrive in Canada through innovative, community-driven programs built on three key pillars; language training, skills development, and well-being. By working collaboratively with community members, public and private partners, and other organizations, SCF strives to ensure that everyone — regardless of their background — has the opportunity to grow, contribute, and lead in Canada.
About the Role
The Corporate Relations Board Member helps expand SCF’s reach into the corporate and philanthropic sectors. This role is ideal for a senior professional with strong networks and a passion for social impact who can help identify partnership opportunities, elevate SCF’s visibility, and support long-term sustainability through relationship-building and strategic guidance.

Key Responsibilities
Partnership Development
Identify and introduce SCF to potential corporate sponsors, philanthropic allies, and foundation partners
Cultivate relationships that can lead to strategic partnerships, donations, or pro bono support
Represent SCF at relevant industry, CSR, or networking events when appropriate
Fundraising Strategy & Support
Collaborate with the Executive Director and staff to shape fundraising campaigns or events
Support donor engagement through introductions, thank-you calls, and stewardship advice
Help SCF explore new funding streams (e.g. employee giving, matched donations, social impact funds)
Ambassadorship & Advocacy
Serve as a visible advocate for SCF within your networks and industry circles
Share SCF’s mission, programs, and impact to inspire others to support
Assist with storytelling, pitch refinement, or speaking opportunities when relevant
Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for someone who brings:
Senior leadership experience in CSR, corporate partnerships, philanthropy, or fundraising
A strong network of corporate, foundation, or high-net-worth contacts
Confidence in making warm introductions and advocating for a cause you believe in
An interest in advancing equity, newcomer/refugee inclusion, and newcomer-led initiatives in Canada
Time Commitment:
- Quarterly virtual board meetings (90 minutes each)
- 2-3 hrs a month for check-ins, mentorship, or committee leadership
- Occasional representation at public events or some in person meetings
